Mobile TV On Track For 2012 London Olympics
The runners are in the starting blocks and the finishing line is the 2012 London Olympics. The race is on to perfect the technology that will enable Mobile TV to be displayed on mobile handsets.
The coming months sees the long awaited auction of the L Band spectrum in the UK. The L Band spectrum is a broadcasting frequency ranging from 1452MHz to 1492MHz. Originally intended for Satellite use and still used for a limited number of communications satellites, the main expectation is for Mobile TV broadcasting.
Orange and T-Mobile have already formed a partnership and plan to roll out a trial of 24 channels this summer in West London. The technology that has already cost millions is TDtv. DVB-H is the rival system and has been endorsed by the EU despite its currently limited use.
Who knows, by 2012 the possibility of buying a TV with a phone pre-installed seems quite a novel idea.
